The reaction system can also be prepared by treating 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzophenone with pyridine in acetonitrile under reflux conditions.2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzophenone is used as a reagent in plant cell culture experiments where it induces DNA cleavage and inhibits protein synthesis.
