Description:Curcurbitacin IIa is a cucurbitacin that has been shown to inhibit the growth of mouse tumor cells. It is also an anti-cancer compound and has been shown to suppress the proliferation of human T-cell lymphoma cells. Curcurbitacin IIa inhibits the activity of a variety of enzymes, including thymidine kinase, ribonucleotide reductase, DNA polymerase, and RNA polymerase. This compound also suppresses the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase. Curcurbitacin IIa has been found to bind specifically to calf thymus DNA in order to inhibit bacterial growth.
