• Description: Cochinchinenin C is a compound extracted from the Chinese medicine Huang-Lian, which has been shown to inhibit osteoclast formation and bone resorption. The extract was chromatographed and its structure was identified as 3-O-methylcatechin. Cochinchinenin C inhibits osteoclast formation by inhibiting the release of ATP from human serum and by blocking extracellular calcium ion influx. This compound also interacts synergistically with tuberculosis drugs, such as isoniazid and rifampicin, in inhibiting bone resorption. Cochinchinenin C also has an ultraviolet (UV) detection wavelength of 350 nm and can be used to detect the presence of tuberculosis in patients.
