3-Chloroisonicotinonitrile is an organic compound with the molecular formula CHClNO. It is a white crystalline solid that occurs as two polymorphs, alpha and beta. The alpha form has a space group P21/n, while the beta form has a space group P21/c. 3-Chloroisonicotinonitrile is soluble in water and its solubility in alcohols is limited to low concentrations. 3-Chloroisonicotinonitrile can be used to synthesize compounds for use in medicine, imaging agents for nuclear magnetic resonance studies, and luminescent substances for the detection of metal ions. It has also been used to study supramolecular chemistry and photophysical properties of molecules.
