Cyanine is a fluorescent dye that has been used to study biological processes. It has been used in the study of reactive transfer reactions, as a fluorescence probe for the measurement of mitochondrial membrane potential, and as an optical imaging agent for detecting infectious diseases. The cyanine dye is also used to stain dna templates in order to identify mutations.
