D-erythro-Chloramphenicol is a chloramphenicol antibiotic that has been shown to inhibit the uptake of nucleic acids by bacteria. It binds to the ribosomal RNA in the bacterial cell and prevents protein synthesis, causing bacterial death. D-erythro-Chloramphenicol is also able to inhibit the uptake of glycine, which is an important amino acid for bacteria. D-erythro-Chloramphenicol has been shown to be active against many different types of bacteria, including those that are resistant to other antibiotics such as penicillin.
