3-[2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]benzoic acid is an inorganic acid that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. 3-[2-Chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]benzoic acid can be synthesized by reaction of chlorinated phenols with sodium benzoate and nitrous acid. The reaction time typically takes 2 hours, the yield can be up to 98%, and the reagent is water soluble. This compound has been shown to be selective for oxidative dehydrogenation reactions. Filtration of this compound through a column of activated charcoal or silica gel can provide high purity.
