Rhamnosides are natural glycoside derivatives that are found in plants belonging to the genus Rhamnus. They have been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and have a hypoglycemic effect in vitro. Rhamnosides also have anti-inflammatory properties and inhibit the activity of certain enzymes, such as phosphodiesterase and lipoxygenase. Some rhamnosides may also be toxic, but this has not been demonstrated in vivo or in humans. In animal studies, it was found that rhamnosides had no effect on the mitochondrial membrane potential, unlike other glycoside derivatives.
