It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cholinesterase. 3,5-Dibromopyridine is synthesized via the cross-coupling reaction between an alkyl bromide and an aryl halide in the presence of a palladium catalyst. This synthetic pathway also produces the corresponding n-oxide and benzoate as byproducts.
