• Description: Diphenyl diselenide is a reactive chemical compound that has been shown to have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It can be used for the treatment of infectious diseases, such as opportunistic fungal infections in immunocompromised patients. The compound inhibits bacterial DNA polymerase, leading to cell death by apoptosis. Diphenyl diselenide also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential and enzyme activities, leading to caspase-independent cell death in wild-type strains of bacteria. In addition, it has been shown to cause atherosclerotic lesion formation in an experimental model by reducing the energy metabolism of cells.
