2,6-Difluorobenzoic acid is a redox potential chemical with a sample preparation model system. It is also used as an analytical method for determining the toxicity profile of a compound. The 2,6-Difluorobenzoic acid can be prepared by reacting hydrochloric acid with benzoate in the presence of catalysts such as palladium chloride and potassium phosphate. The reaction solution is then heated at 60°C until all the benzoate has been oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid. This process can be repeated until all of the 2,6-difluorobenzoic acid is produced.
