2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone is a compound that contains the hydroxyl group and a hydrogen atom. It has intramolecular hydrogen and stable complexes with amines. The high values of the 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone molecule are due to its hydrogen bond interactions with ethylene diamine and malonic acid. This product can also be found in nature as p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) or as hydroxybenzoic acid (HB). In addition to its use in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone is used in the production of dyes and pigments. 2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone can react with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen gas.
