Diphenadione is a vitamin K antagonist that binds to the receptor site of vitamin K. It has been used as an anticoagulant in humans and other mammals. Diphenadione has been shown to be effective in preventing clot formation and improving blood flow. Diphenadione is also used as a positive control agent in immunoassays, such as ELISA and Western blotting, for the detection of monoclonal antibodies. This drug can be toxic at high doses, leading to side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, skin rash or itchiness, or kidney damage. Diphenadione may have drug interactions with diphacinone and coumarin derivatives.
