Trans-2-Decenoic acid ethyl ester is a fatty acid that is used as an immunosuppressant. It has been shown to suppress the body's immune response by inhibiting the production of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Trans-2-Decenoic acid ethyl ester also has neurotrophic effects, which may be due to its ability to stimulate the growth of new neurons in the hippocampus. The growth rate of cells treated with trans-2-Decenoic acid ethyl ester was significantly higher than control cells. Trans-2-Decenoic acid ethyl ester can be synthesized from dodecanoic acid and ethyl decanoate by treatment with sodium borohydride.
