2,3-Dibromomaleimide is a reactive molecule that can reversibly form a disulfide bond with two lysine residues in proteins. This reaction is irreversible and leads to the inhibition of cell proliferation. 2,3-Dibromomaleimide is a molecule that can inhibit cells by reversible covalent means. It inhibits efflux pump activity and prevents cells from exporting toxic substances. 2,3-Dibromomaleimide also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and has been evaluated as an anti-cancer drug for the treatment of prostate cancer. The chemical structure of this molecule contains an alkylthio group that is reactive at the site of cysteine residue modification.
