This compound was also found to inhibit cancer cells, including mcf-7. 2,4-Diamino-5-nitropyrimidine binds nucleophilic sites on proteins and inhibits enzymes involved in DNA synthesis. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to cell death by preventing the production of new proteins needed for cell division.
