• Description: Diethyl p-tosyloxymethylphosphonate is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of tenofovir. It is a salt of diethyl phosphate and p-toluenesulfonyl chloride, which reacts with magnesium chloride to form diethyl p-tosyloxymethylphosphonate. Diethyl p-tosyloxymethylphosphonate is also used as a reagent for the acylation reaction of phosphites and chlorides. This reaction has been shown to be useful in the synthesis of many organic compounds, including drugs such as methyldopa and acetazolamide. Diethyl p-tosyloxymethylphosphonate has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties. The mechanism of this effect is not well understood, but it may be due to inhibition of DNA replication or the induction of apoptosis by reactive oxygen species (ROS).
