N-(Diphenylmethylene)glycine ethyl ester is an organic compound that is a colorless liquid. It has a molecular formula of C5H9NO2, which corresponds to the structural formula shown below. The compound has a hydrogen bond between the carbonyl oxygen and the amine nitrogen, which gives it some acidity. N-(Diphenylmethylene)glycine ethyl ester hydrolyzes in alkaline conditions to form an imine and ethanolamine.
The protonated imine can react with hydrochloric acid to form an ester hydrochloride. This reaction mechanism is shown in the following figure:
