Description:Dess-Martin periodinane (DMP) is a chemoselective oxidant widely used in organic chemistry to oxidise primary alcohols to aldehydes and secondary alcohols to ketones. DMP is the acetylated version of another organic periodinane oxidant, 2-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX). DMP has several advantages over IBX, namely higher solubility in common organic solvents, higher reactivity and longer shelf life.
