Description

Dehydrocholic acid is a bile acid that has been shown to have pharmacological effects. It is used in the treatment of liver disease, including obstructive jaundice, cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Dehydrocholic acid binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits the activity of enzymes such as phospholipase A2, which are involved in inflammatory responses. Dehydrocholic acid has been shown to have a protective effect on congestive heart failure cells, and can prevent liver cells from injury due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress.
