It binds to endogenous vasoactive intestinal peptide, calcitonin and other proteins in tissues and can be detected using immunostaining. Dansyl-D-Ala-Gly-4-nitro-Phe-Gly-OH trifluoroacetate salt is optimised for use as a substrate for neutral endopeptidase and metalloendopeptidase enzymes, which are responsible for the degradation of vasoactive intestinal peptide.
