Product Information
- Propanoic Acid, 2-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)-2-Methyl-
2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid is a plant growth regulator that inhibits the transfer of auxin from the shoot to the root. It does this by preventing synthesis of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and its conversion to 2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionic acid (2,4-DP). The 2,4-D then binds to the auxin transport proteins in the plasma membrane and prevents their passage through the cell wall. The mechanism of action of 2,4-D is not well understood but it is thought that it may inhibit or interfere with indoleacetic acid production or metabolism. Auxins are also mediators of plant physiology and play a role in many processes such as phototropism and phytochrome sensitivity.
2,4-D has been shown to block photosynthesis and respiration in plants by inhibiting chlorophyll synthesis. Indoleacetic acid
