2,4-Dichloro-5-iodopyrimidine is a nucleophilic chemical reagent that can be used to synthesize uracil. It is made by the hydrolysis of 2,4-dichloro-5-iodopyrimidine with sodium hydroxide in water. The reaction yields two isomers which are separated by chromatography. The chemical is used in the synthesis of alkoxides and pyrroles, as well as the synthesis of furans and benzene derivatives. 2,4-Dichloro-5-iodopyrimidine reacts with phosphorus oxychloride to form acetonitrile and oxychloride.
