Its inhibitory activities are reversible and competitive with respect to chloride ions at concentrations greater than 250 µM. 3,5-Dimethoxybenzyl alcohol has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of phosphatase enzymes in Chinese medicinal herbs such as Polygonum multiflorum Thunb., Phellodendron amurense Rupr., or Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai.
