Description:
1,1-Diethoxy-3-methylbutane is a cavity agent that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of periodontal disease. It is a derivative of cinnamic acid, which is an aldehyde. The molecule consists of an ethoxy group and a methyl group on the same carbon atom. This active form can be detected in human breath after oral administration and has been detected in blood plasma following intravenous administration. 1,1-Diethoxy-3-methylbutane is soluble in deionized water and lipids, but not organic solvents such as diethyl succinate or ethyl esters. This active form also has high concentrations in fatty acids and cycloaliphatic compounds.
