3,5-Dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is a hydantoin derivative that has been modified to enhance its pharmacokinetic properties. It exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. 3,5-Dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione has been shown to induce death by caspase independent cell death (CICD). This compound also induces the production of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and can be used to treat inflammation caused by bacterial infections. 3,5-Dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is a member of the class of compounds called hydantoins. Hydantoins are characterized by their ring structures that contain nitrogen heterocycles in which one or more carbon atoms have been replaced with nitrogen atoms. The pharmacological properties of this drug are due to the structural modifications made to the molecule in order to increase its bioavailability.
