3,4-Dimethoxychalcone is a natural product that belongs to the class of phenolic compounds. It has been shown to have antioxidant and anticancer properties in vitro. 3,4-Dimethoxychalcone is able to inhibit the oxidation of proteins by tyrosinase and its activity as an enzyme inhibitor. 3,4-Dimethoxychalcone also inhibits the growth of k562 cells at optimum concentration. This compound has been shown to increase cancer resistance in rats after dehydration. 3,4-Dimethoxychalcone does not inhibit the enzyme activity of tyrosinase or other enzymes in rat neutrophils at low concentrations. The molecule has a carbonyl group, which may be responsible for its antioxidant properties.
