It has been shown to inhibit the growth of human pathogens such as Burkholderia, Acinetobacter, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Mycoplasma. The crystal structure of cis-2-dodecenoic acid has been determined by x-ray crystallography. Cis-2-Dodecenoic acid also inhibits transcriptional regulation and signal transduction in bacteria. Cis-2-Dodecenoic acid is not active against wild type strains of bacteria such as Galleria mellonella or other insects.
