Dimethyl 2-methylenesuccinate (DMMS) is a chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the release of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-10. DMMS also binds to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species. DMMS has been shown to induce autophagy, which is a process that removes damaged or unnecessary cells from the body. DMMS may also be used in chemotaxis experiments as a chemoattractant protein, although it is not currently approved for this use. This drug may have potential applications in treating bowel disease.
