Product Information
- Phenol, 2,6-Dibromo-4-Chloro-
2,6-Dibromo-4-chlorophenol is a chemical compound that is used in the manufacture of organic chemicals. It is produced by acetylation of 2,6-dichlorophenol and has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of cinnamic acid. This chemical product can be recovered from x-ray crystallography and can be activated with oxone to form hydrogen peroxide. The viscosity of this chemical product can be monitored using an osmometer. Hydrogen peroxide reacts with methyl cinnamate to form phenylacetaldehyde and acetic acid. Phenolic compounds are also produced during this reaction. The rate of the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and methyl cinnamate is measured kinetically. A filtration process is used to remove unreacted hydrogen peroxide from the final product. Chlorine gas may react with this chemical product to produce hydrochloric acid and 2,6-dichlorophenol.
