Dehydroandrographolide succinate is a hypoglycemic drug that belongs to the class of triterpene compounds. It is synthesized from dehydroandrograpolide, which is extracted from the plant Andrographis paniculata (commonly known as "king of bitters"). Dehydroandrographolide succinate has been shown to be effective in treating diabetes mellitus type 2, with or without associated renal or hepatic dysfunction. The hypoglycemic effect of this drug is mediated by its matrix effect on cells and tissues. Dehydroandrographolide succinate binds to glucose molecules and prevents them from being released into the bloodstream, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. This drug also has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on cells and tissues through its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
