The inhibitory effects are related to the ability to bind to enzymes such as protocatechuic acid hydroxylase (PCA) and caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT), which are the target enzymes for this compound. 3,4-Dihydroxy-5-methoxycinnamic acid is metabolized by protocatechuic acid 4-hydroxylase (PCAH) and caffeic acid 4-hydroxylase (CAH), which converts it into protocatechu
