This reaction produces hydrogen gas as a byproduct and reduces the concentration of 3,5-dimethylcyclohexanone. The stereoselective reduction of 3,5-dimethylcyclohexanone was also observed when it was mixed with organic solvent. The use of microextraction to isolate 3,5-dimethylcyclohexanone from other compounds in the sample was also investigated.
