2,4-Dibromo-1-naphthol is an organic molecule that belongs to the class of hydrogen bond. It is a colorless, water-insoluble solid with a melting point of about 115 °C and boiling point of about 300 °C. 2,4-Dibromo-1-naphthol is soluble in ether, chloroform, benzene, carbon disulfide and acetone. It reacts with diacetamide to produce 2,4-diacetyl naphthalene. This compound can be used as a hydrogen bond donor or acceptor in various reactions such as the cleavage of hydrogen bonds in membranes by phosphine at temperatures over 100°C or the reaction of phosphonium salts at temperatures over 200°C.
