1,8-Diazanaphthalene is a stable chemical that has been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV in vitro. The antiviral activity of 1,8-diazanaphthalene was demonstrated by its ability to inhibit the binding of HIV to host cells. This compound also inhibits the growth of human cancer cells and has shown efficacy against hyperproliferative diseases such as bowel disease and prostate cancer. The structure of 1,8-diazanaphthalene consists of two benzene rings connected through a nitrogen atom with two methyl groups on one side and an intramolecular hydrogen bond between nitrogen atoms on the opposite side.
