Dicyclopentenyl alcohol is a reactive chemical intermediate that can be used to produce dicyclopentane, a precursor to polymers. It can also be used as a cross-linking agent in pharmaceutical preparations and active substances. Dicyclopentenyl alcohol has been used as a viscosity modifier and as an additive for film-forming polymers. The reaction of this compound with hydroxylamine yields the sulfonated product, which is water soluble and has a high degree of solubility in organic solvents. This product may be used as an anti-inflammatory drug or an antiseptic.
