Product Information
- 3,4-Dinitrobenzophenone
- (3-Nitrophenyl)(4-Nitrophenyl)Methanone
3,4-Dinitrobenzophenone is a diazo compound that is used as a reagent in organic chemistry. It can be prepared by the attack of nitrous acid on benzophenone or by heating 3-nitrobenzophenone with acetic anhydride and sodium hydroxide. The compound has been shown to react with aromatic ketones at low temperatures to yield diazonium salts. These salts can then be reacted with coupling agents such as diazotized benzene, diazotized aniline, or diazotized phenylamine. Diazonium salts are also formed when 3,4-dinitrobenzophenone reacts with diazonium salts such as sodium nitrite and potassium thiocyanate in water. These reactions lead to the formation of transition metal complexes such as nickel carbonyl and palladium acetate.
