Dimethylgermaniumdichloride is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst in the polymerization of vinyl chloride. It has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the polymerization of vinyl chloride, but it can also catalyze other reactions such as the hydrolysis of chloroform, hydrochloric acid and hydrogen fluoride. Dimethylgermaniumdichloride is insoluble in water and organic solvents, so it cannot be used as a catalyst in liquid media. It is also considered to be a solid catalyst because it does not dissolve in any solvent.
