Description:

Dimebon is a drug that has neuroprotective properties and is being studied as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease. It is known to have a number of pharmacological effects, including inhibition of the formation of amyloid protein in mammalian cells. Dimebon also inhibits the function of 5-HT7 receptors and may be useful in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In addition, dimebon has been shown to be effective in protecting neuronal cells from damage caused by hydrogen peroxide or glutamate. This drug is not metabolized and it has a long half-life (80 hours).
Dimebon was discovered in Russia in 1969 as an antihistamine, but later found to have other therapeutic properties.
