Description:
2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-5-one (DMDO) is an organocatalytic compound that has been used in the preparation of a number of chiral enantiopure compounds. DMDO is prepared by dehydration of acetalized phenylacetone with nitrobenzene and catalyzed by a mixture of sodium methoxide and potassium t-butoxide. The solvent that is used for this process can be argon or xylene. The reaction product was obtained as a white solid in about 99% yield.
