2,4-Dimethyl-6-nitrophenol is an inorganic compound that reacts with sulfamic acid to form a sulfamic acid salt. This reaction is catalyzed by thermal energy and the product is a corrosion inhibitor. 2,4-Dimethyl-6-nitrophenol also has the ability to react with nitric acid to form an acid complex. The chromatographic process separates this complex from chloride ions and peroxide molecules. 2,4-Dimethyl-6-nitrophenol can be used as an imaging technique in which the presence of chloride ions causes a color change in the film. The reaction time for this process depends on the type of sulfurous ion present. There are three possible reactions:
1) Sulfur dioxide + 2,4-dimethylphenol → 2,4-dimethylsulfonophenone
2) Sulfur dioxide + 2,4-dimethylphenol →
3)
