2-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)propionicacid is a dichlorprop herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of chlorophyll and other plant pigments by inhibiting the activity of enzymes in the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway. 2,4-Dichlorobenzoic acid is an organic compound that is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. In a model system using human serum and renal bean extracts, 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)propionicacid inhibited the activities of several enzymes related to kidney function. This chemical may be toxic to humans and other animals because it can cause liver damage if swallowed or inhaled.
