7,4'-Dihydroxyflavanone is a flavanone found in fructus ligustri and other plants. It has been shown to have DNA binding activity and antioxidant properties. 7,4'-Dihydroxyflavanone can be used for the treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV, malaria, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and influenza. The compound has been shown to inhibit the oxidative injury of nuclear DNA by inhibiting lipid peroxidation in cells, which leads to cell death. 7,4'-Dihydroxyflavanone also induces the protein genes that are important in the immune response. This compound is marketed under the trade name Liquiritigenin.
