It is also an intermediate in the conversion of methanol to formaldehyde. 2,2-Dimethylcyclopropyl)methanol can be synthesized by dehydrogenation of methyl cyclopropane carboxylate. This chemical can be used as a probe for horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase. 2,2-Dimethylcyclopropyl)methanol has been shown to have activity against lactate dehydrogenase, which plays an important role in the production of energy from glucose in the cell.
