Detanonoate is a cyclase inhibitor that can induce apoptosis and inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Detanonoate has been shown to be minimally toxic in cell culture studies and to have a minimal effect on enzyme activity. Detanonoate also has significant cytotoxicity against tumor cells, with minimal toxicity against normal cells. It also exerts an anti-inflammatory effect through its inhibition of toll-like receptor 4, which is involved in the inflammatory response. Detanonoate has been shown to decrease tumor growth by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential. Detanonoate is used for the treatment of bowel disease.
