Dibenzylfluorescein has significant cytotoxicity and causes genotoxic effects in human cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit drug-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. The fluorescence intensity of dibenzylfluorescein is proportional to the amount of CYP3A4 present in the sample.
