Product Information
Name:Decachlorobiphenyl
Controlled Product
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Decachlorobiphenyl is a chemical that is produced by the reaction of chlorine with biphenyl or diphenyl ether. Decachlorobiphenyl has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of fatty acid synthase in liver cells, which is responsible for synthesizing fatty acids. It also inhibits the enzyme activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which is involved in regulating the production of ketone bodies and fatty acids. The mechanism of action for decachlorobiphenyl inhibition of these enzymes is thought to be due to its ability to bind to the active site and interfere with the formation of an enzyme-substrate complex. Decachlorobiphenyl can be detected using chemical ionization mass spectrometry at m/z=313 and 314, corresponding to C13H9Cl10+ and C13H9Cl7+, respectively.
