2,2-Dimethylbutane is a hydrocarbon that is obtained from the cracking of petroleum. It has a boiling point of about -3°C and can be converted to 2,2-dimethylpropane by adding hydrogen fluoride in a reaction vessel under constant pressure at low temperatures. The analytical method for determining the concentration of 2,2-dimethylbutane involves measuring the affinity constants of phenyl groups with dipropyl ether or hexane. The affinity constants are measured using constant pressure at low temperatures and activation energies are determined using ternary mixtures containing 2,2-dimethylbutane. By measuring these constants, it is possible to calculate the equilibrium constant (K) for this reaction. This constant can be used to determine the concentrations of reactants and products at equilibrium or when there is a change in temperature or pressure.
