Diphenyl phosphate is a white crystalline solid. It is soluble in water and alcohol, but insoluble in ether. Diphenyl phosphate is an organophosphorus compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of picolinic acid carboxylase and aminolevulinate synthase. It was also shown to have toxicological effects on cells in vitro. The toxicity of this substance may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis by altering the activity of proteins involved in the apoptotic pathway.
