Dimethyl 1,4-cubanedicarboxylate is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of carbonyl compounds. It is a fluorinated derivative of 1,4-butanediol and has been synthesized in order to study its biological properties. Dimethyl 1,4-cubanedicarboxylate has been shown to antagonize the growth of a number of bacterial strains and to inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. The synthesis of this compound was achieved through the reaction mechanism involving an amine and a diacid. Dimethyl 1,4-cubanedicarboxylate also reacts with nucleophiles such as hydroxide ions or amines to form a new molecule with an electron-deficient carbonyl group (-CO).
